Football League votes against 3G Artificial Pitches
A recent EGM at Derby County was held to discuss the Football League allowing clubs to use 3rd generation artificial pitches, known as 3G pitches.
The vote was to see if Sky Bet League 1 & 2 clubs could install and use the latest artiifical pitches for use in the 2015/16 season. Currently these artificial surfaces are not allowed in the Premiership, Championshio or Football League, which makes up the top 4 tiers of Enflish football.
The result was 34 clubs voted in favour of the proposals with 34 against and four abstentions. The tied vote means the proposal will not go ahead.
Shaun Harvey - Football League Chief Executive - said: "This vote is reflective of the fact that this issue divides opinion amongst clubs as much as it does across the football public. While the outcome is different to previous indicative votes, it demonstrates that there is still a desire amongst clubs to find out more about artificial playing surfaces before taking such a significant step."
